Silver "Storm" Breeze sighed as she gazed at the gray sky that hung low over the busy city. It was supposed to rain today, a fact that she didn't mind all that much. She enjoyed the rain, especially when she was feeling down, like she was today.
At the moment, she was on her way to the library to return a few books she'd checked out days before. The campus library was on the opposite side of the college from Storm's dorm room, to her disdain. She considered flying, but decided against it, knowing how crowded the city was and how difficult it could be to navigate the buildings. Even so, Storm loved to walk through the city. Every time she took this path, she noticed something new.
Today she noticed a coffee shop. It was small, and somewhat set back from the street. It was easy to miss if you weren't paying attention to your surroundings. It looked interesting, and Storm decided she could go for some coffee right now.
A little bell dinged as she stepped into the shop. The service was fast and within minutes, Storm was seated at a small table in the corner sipping her coffee and looking around her. There were a few other ponies here, though they all seemed preoccupied with their own things. That was fine with Storm; she never really liked talking to strangers.
Perhaps it was too much to hope that no one would approach her, though. After all, this place seemed almost exclusive to their regulars. They would be sure to notice a new pony suddenly coming in...

Rain wasn't the type of thing to bother him, so the stallion was quite content to continue strolling through the city whilst others sought shelter from the oncoming storm. You'd think they never washed or something, from the way the general public skittered away. There was still the odd one or two ponies - the dark grey clouds not quite over the city yet - who seemed to reflect his own thoughts. What harm was a little rain?
Manehattan was admittedly a new venture for him; Flash had travelled across country before, but being back in a high-rise city again was kind of warming. Reminded him of home. Having been wandering for quite some time today, camera comfortably sitting under his neck like always, the stallion now found himself just outside what looked like a school campus. A name was engraved in a stone arch over its gates - Manehattan Arts Institute, was it? Neat. He hadn't been to college since... well, ever.
The earth pony allowed himself a chuckle as he passed the gates, heading for the smaller street beside the campus. Student country, most likely. Still, the little shops and stalls were interesting enough, some catering to the fact that students are nutters and sporting the kinds of weird trinkets you'd only ever find in a student's dorm room. Maybe he'd pick one up himself. Actually...
He checked the bits he carried - not an awful lot left. He'd have to spend them on something more sensible. Like food... food was sensible, right?
Accompanied by the ding of a soft bell, a few whispers and disapproving looks followed Flashback as he sauntered inside the café. He often got this greeting, it was nothing new. The wild dreads he sported were often the thing that caused the most ruckus, especially in cosy little regulars-only places like this. The stallion just grinned it off, grabbing some hot chocolate before trying to find a table... Each one had a pony at it. Dammnit. Undeterred, but seeking a solution, the earth pony eventually settled for a little corner with only one pony in its sights, avoiding the few who were still muttering about him. Skipping over, Flash tapped the tip of a chair.
"This seat taken?" He asked calmly.

"This seat taken?"
Of course. She'd honestly expected someone to talk to her. Someone always did.
That didn't mean she had to talk to them.
Without looking up from her drink, she shook her head, allowing the other pony--a stallion by the sound of the voice--to sit at her table. Although she was determined to ignore him, her curiosity easily got the best of her and she found herself peeking at him.
She was right--it was a stallion. He was an earth pony, with a yellow pelt and wild dreadlocks adorning his head. Oddly enough, he had a bit of a beard, an unusual trait for a pony. He had a camera around his neck, which interested Storm greatly. She soon found herself staring at him unashamedly, intrigued by this strange pony. Finally, she decided to set aside her introversion to learn a little more about this pony.
"What do you take pictures of?"

The grin reappeared as the stallion took his seat, sipping at the scalding mug. He quickly recoiled, tongue sticking out slightly as the heat danced across it - still a bit too hot to drink. Okay. Retracting the tongue, Flash glanced over at the mare whose table he had intruded upon; she was pretty, if slightly more colt-ly built, with a myriad of cool colours. If only they were in Whitetail Woods, the leaves in autumn would have been a perfect contrast to her hue...
"What do you take pictures of?"
Oh, conversation? Okay, cool. He could dig that - although answering her question wasn't as easy. He took pictures of, well, everything! From ponies to wildlife, from landscapes to portraits - anything that took his interest was snapped by that lens, and several times over more often than not. Sometimes he was paid for specific things; family or group shots on special occasions, rare flowers or wildlife for the learned types, and of course there was the 'elusive' challenges passed from ear to ear... In fact, he could be quite busy if he thought about it - probably a good thing that he almost never got everything on his to-do list done, else he'd have no time to chill!
Like today. Today was a day to chill. Wait... he still hadn't answered her - think of a response!
"Oh, lotsa things," he smiled, waving a hoof to emphasise the great many number of things there could possibly be around them. "Probably landscapes the most, although sometimes I snap a pony or two. Y'interested in photography, then?"
